Getting Here

The Uists are a chain of tiny islands linked together by causeways and give good transport links along its length.

Travelling to the Isle of South Uist is done by sea or air.

There are four ferries that arrive on the Uists:

  • Oban port in Argyll on mainland west coast Scotland to Lochboisdale in South Uist
  • Uig port on Skye to Lochmaddy in North Uist
  • Leverburgh port on the Isle of Harris to Berneray on North Uist (The Isle of Harris is attached by land to the Isle of Lewis).
  • There is also a ferry that travels between Ardmhor on Barra and Eriskay. (Eriskay is joined to South Uist by a causeway).

Which ever way you choose to travel it is a scenic route with chances of seeing dolphins, basking sharks, sea eagles and much more.

By air, flights are from Inverness to Benbecula, Glasgow to Benbecula, Glasgow to the famous beach runway on Barra and then on to Eriskay by ferry.
