Around Otter Point Chalet

Otter Point chalet is situated on the shore of Loch Eynort on the East coast of South Uist, offering excellent views of Loch Eyenort and the surrounding hillsides. It is a renowned area for spotting all kinds of wildlife, including otters, seals, sea eagles and other birdlife.

The Chalet is on a peninsula, a piece of land that juts out into the sealoch. The penisula is a hundred yards or in length, fifty yards offshore at the end is a small island mostly covered by the incoming tide, seals bask there, at some times of the year a hundred seals can be easily counted in the loch. Mostly this land are is just used by anyone staying at the Chalet, and is a great place to wake up to. There is a seat just outside the chalet which is a lovely place to eat breakfast and listen to the seals singing and watch the seabirds.

Across the loch are hills, and behind the chalet are more hills, there is lots of scope for walking! Just a mile or two away are glorious white sand beaches.

A short drive of no more than four miles away is the Askernish Golf Course, this historic course was designed by Old Tom Morris, and now fully restored, has become one of the finest links courses in Scotland giving any keen golfer a challenge! The course lies along the South Uist Machair and those who would prefer a walk can stroll the sands or wander amongst the wildflowers and hear the seals singing from a small island out in the sea.

Fly fishing, hill walking and gentle strolls are all within easy reach by foot or a short drive away. South Uist has the best to offer for a relaxing, peaceful holiday or for more adventurous explorations!

South Uist provides many places to eat out within easy reach. The Borrodale hotel is just 4 miles away. Loch Boisdale the ‘capital’ of South Uist and serves visitors and locals with shops, petrol, café (Cake!) and hotel. Or perhaps you might prefer to enjoy a day out on Eriskay where the famous film Whiskey Galore was portrayed!
